Hypes.

Saturday, August 28, 2010

I tought, this time I won’t go with the flow and follow these hypes by posting them on this blog, but damn these tracks/groups are just to good to let them pass by. So you may already know these bands, but for the people who don’t: check them out, they are really worth it!

Let’s begin with one of the greatest tracks released this year: “King of the Beach” by Wavves! It’s on their thirds record already and to be honest I’ve never heard of them but that’s no bad thing, staying underground. But now I’ve discovered Wavves and I am happy I did, “King of the beach” is such an awesome song! Tight drums, happy guitars and some catchy vocals. Really a great song, live an awesome sing-along! Other songs are sometimes a bit similar but still there is enough diversity so the cd never gets boring. Another favourite is the more psychedellic “Post Acid”. This music is called Lo-fi punk, which means recorded in a “bad” DIY way, but it all gives it more love by us. Happy to let you get to know this band, You gotta check out Wavves:

Wavves – King of the Beach

Next is softer, sunnier and has a great folk touch. The guys and girl from Allo Darlin’ give you some of the sunniest and happiest songs you’ll hear this summer. If you want a comparison: Slow club but in a more mature version. Some happy guitars, flute and vocals. This is pure summer. I love this cd! Have a listen at one of their songs!

Allo Darlin’ – Dreaming

Another hype in the making: the new Interpol album. A lot of people who wants be indie or want to be the person who knows all the unknown bands hate that other Joy Division clone called Editors but love Interpol. No idea why, I like them both. As example the new song leaked from their upcoming album sounds great! Barricade gets them back and closer to their debut album, and far away from their 2007 ‘Our love to admire’. Thank god for that! Have a listen and countdown to their new album:

Interpol – Barricade

Last hype for today: Miami Horror. They make some bloody nice stuff. Dancy disco tunes with the most catchy hooks I’ve heard this summer! The track “Holiday” is stuck on repeat in my head, but that’s just fine because it’s a goddamn nice tune! Disco will rule 2010!

Miami Horror – Holiday

Keep them hyping!

All Delighted People.

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Today is a good day, said a certain rapper in one of his songs and damn he’s right! New stuff out of nowhere by the master of music: Sufjan Stevens! And you can have a listen to a new song by Goose!

First up, news about Sufjan. After years without releasing typical SS songs the man is back. Without a warning this time, but that makes us love the tracks even more. Yeah, you got it, I’m loving this EP called “All Delighted People”! 8 new tracks, duration about 1 hour, enough to discover this time! The title track comes in 2 versions, the original one is my favourite (actually of the whole EP) with some of the best orchestral parts Stevens has used so far, banjo’s, guitars, choirs and other stuff to give a wide variety in just 9 minutes. This song (and the others too actually) could fit in right on his masterpiece Illinoise. Mr Stevens explains: “All Delighted People is a dramatic homage to the Apocalypse, existential ennui, and Paul Simon’s Sounds of Silence. Sounds delightful, yes!” You can prelisten the whole thing at the link below and buy it for only 5 dollars, cheap so do it!

Sufjan Stevens – All Delighted People Ep

Second: the guys from Goose are assholes! Making us so damn curious about their new CD, they gave us after “Words” a new song called “Dawn”. Short and mysterious, this track makes us want to have that second CD more and more. Liking their new style, a bit of kraftwerkish vocals in “Words”; dark synths in “Dawn”… Can’t wait to hear the next song! But please, have a listen for yourself:

Goose – Dawn

As a bonus, a nice mixtape made by Supah Troopas! Have a listen, these guys made an effort and delivered quality. Nice one!

Supah Troopas – 2 cool 4 skool

Peace!

Dancing In The Suburbs

Saturday, August 14, 2010

Hi,

As you know Arcade Fire released a new album this week, and we couldn’t let that pass without any news of it on this blog. As I’m not the best reviewer I won’t give a try reviewing the album. But I can say for the few times I listened to it, the album is genius and is a relief after their rather disappointing second album “Neon Bible”.

Maybe the best thing about this album is that they left out the bombast from Neon bible and tried to make good music instead of making good music but with as lot of people possible playing instruments at the same time. But check it out for your self you can listen to two of the songs, including their latest single “The Suburbs” on their myspace. And I put my favorite song of the album down below. For the rest of the album go out and buy it, you won’t be disappointed!

Arcade Fire – Ready To Start

I don’t really know why I like this song the most, but it kind of attracted me since the first listening of the album. I think I like the energy, the speed of the song the most. But also the great lyrics like: “Businessmen drink my blood, like the kids in art schools said they would.”

With Perfume Genius I had number one for my top 10 albums of this year and i think I found an album for the second spot.

Peace out hombre’s

Carolina Chocolate Drops

Saturday, July 31, 2010

Time for some cool folk music! Carolina Chocolate Drops are three youngsters who use violins, banjo’s and other folky instruments to make some great music. With some nice and strong vocals by Rhiannon Giddens, they make some of the coolest folk music around these days. You can see them live at Dranouter festival in Belgium, other dates check their myspace! We give you one tracks, so you can get to know them. Hit ‘em up style is our favourite, live this song could really start a party. Fresh, new and original, that is what CCD is about.

The Big Asthmatic Kitty Post

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Hiya Fella’s,

I wanted to tell you about this awesome label called Asthmatic Kitty. It’s Mr. Sufjans Stevens’ very own indie record label and they have signed a lot of (mostly) awesome bands with styles from hip hop to sweet indiepop and so on. There are a lot of free songs on their website and I’ll post some here but there’s a lot more to discover (but don’t get hooked because you should have time enough to check out our blog too of course :) )

1. First things first: The great Sufjan himself of course (someone I shouldn’t introduce)! From his first album A Sun Came, here comes Jason, a great song that’s a little bit edgier, harder than his later work. Here’s the link.

Sufjan Stevens – Jason

2. Don’t know what to say about this guy, he’s called Jookabox and he’s eclectic, crazy, cool, … as hell. His music is a mix of soul, hip hop, indie, pop, rock and so on but we don’t care as long as he makes great shit… and that friends, is what he does. So here are two tracks for you to enjoy.

Jookabox – The Girl Ain’t Preggers

Jookabox – You Cried Me

3. This is music your grandma could listen to too, and I don’t mean this in a bad way. It’ sweet, it’s naïve, it’s produced by Sufjan and it’s a bit lithurgical and it’s called The Welcome Wagon. I know this all seems a little weird but they have some nice songs. Check it out and see if you like it or not…

Welcome Wagon – Sold! To The Nice Rich Man!

4. This is a little bit different too: Osso is a modernist string quartet that starred in the song Diamonds For Sierra Leone from Kanye – yo, imma let you finish, but… – West and worked together with other artists like: The National, Jay-Z, The Polyphonic Spree,… . Last year they reworked Sufjan’s second album called: Enjoy Your Rabbit, which was filled with weird electronical instrumental pieces of art… This is a song that was on the rework from that album. For your consideration:

Osso – Run Rabbit Run

5. DM Stith is also really cool. It’s darker and more melancholic than the links above but it’s still great music, I like it the most when I come home from an awesome party and I just want to chill out and listen to something beautiful , but you can listen to it on other ocasions too of course :)  . Here’s a link to one of his songs:

DM Stith – BMB

6. And last but not least, something funny to dance on from a guy called Rafter. I only recently discovered this and I have to say if I would hear this on the dancefloor my feet wouldn’t stop moving. So here you are:

Rafter – Fruit (remix)

Like I said there’s a lot more to discover but this should keep give you a nice impression of what Astmatic Kitty is.

Enjoy,

Gayngs.

Thursday, May 13, 2010

Gayngs is a new band which released a beautiful debut album! It’s – even better – the newest Indiesupergroup! With members of bands including Solid Gold, Megafaun, Lookbook, Leisure Birds, Rhymesayers (rapper POS), the Rosebuds and Bon Iver – Mike Noyce appears here on guitar and vocals, while Justin Vernon lends his sweet falsetto to a couple of tracks. Their album is a real juwel full of epic and beautiful sounds. Really loving their single “Cry” at the moment, it’s so nice I really had to share this with you guys! Some of the best indie/folk around these days! Listen to it, buy the album and spread the (rusty) love:

Gayngs – Cry

and as a bonus to get you totally hooked up, another beautiful Gayngs-song:

Gayngs – Faded High

Enjoy these amazing tunes!

Mumford & Sons cover.

Sunday, April 18, 2010

This is cool: Mumford & Sons recorded two covers! One from the song “I’m not alone” by Calvin Harris and another one called “Cousins” by Vampire Weekend. The one from Calvin Harris is nicely done, except when normally the synths drop, they can’t really beat the original. Their version of “Cousins” is pretty awesome, especially when the drum kicks in. Some nice party track! We can offer you the vampire weekend cover, the other one can be heard on youtube. Check them out:

Mumford & Sons – Cousins

Mumford & Sons – I’m not alone (youtube vid)

Ha Dvash.

Saturday, April 3, 2010

Some new tracks to keep you up to date:

LCD Soundsystem – Drunk Girls

Another awesome track by LCD Soundsystem, it’s kinda punky and a real singalong song! This will be a highlight in their live-shows, for sure.

Fool’s Gold – Ha Dvash

Some new stars on the horizon: Fool’s Gold is a collaboration between two artists from L.A. with a mutual-passion for World Music. This song is in Hebrew, so you can’t really understand the lyrics, but this song has such a nice vibe, you got to listen to it! A really summerish song with a sound which reminds me of Vampire Weekend and Yeasayer! Can’t be bad!

Jonsi – Time To Pretend (Mgmt Cover)

A few people asked me to share the MGMT cover made by Jonsi, so here it is. Not a bad version, but I prefer the original one. But as everybody knows, Jonsi can’t do anything wrong and proves it with this cover.

Claude VonStroke – Deep Throat (Cates’ No Bucking Fueno Mix)

Big-ass track “Deep Throat” in a John Cates remix. We prefer the original mix, but this one isn’t bad either.

DJ Gregory & Sidney Samson- Salon (featuring Dama S)

Sidney Samson made a great track! Salon is a housy track with some kuduro influences. A really nice track, check it out!

Zinc – Killa Sound feat. No Lay

Zinc made this track with No Lay from the Grime group Unorthodox Crew and gave us a dancefloorkiller!

Mujava – Mugwanti / Sgwejegweje (Schlachthofbronx Remix)

A big tune, in a Schlachthofbronx remix! Schlachthofbronx make some of the best remixes around these days, they are funky and hard! World music conquers the dancefloor thanks to this guy! (remeber this track)

Enjoy these!

Jonsi – Boy Lilikoi

Megafaun.

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

Megafaun is a folkband with members like Brad Cook, Joe Westerlund and Phil Cook originate,  formerly of Amateur Love and DeYarmond Edison, which included Justin Vernon from Bon Iver. They made a brilliant folkalbum, which contains some noise and unconventional folk. A thing we like, espacially when we can go watch them live (for free) at Vooruit in Gent or Depot in Leuven (together with Isbells, €12) in March, 2010. Check out some songs and maybe we see you there!

Megafaun – I Saw Three Ships

Megafaun – The Longest Day

Megafaun – Darkest Hour

Godspeed!
