Dance!

Friday, August 27, 2010

My post titles aren’t that original lately (have they every been?) but that’s no thing to worry about when I got 2 things to share with you from (upcoming) Belgian talents! First up is a mixtape made by Supreems, Antwerp based Dj’s that made a killer mixtape! Already making people dance on Laudry Day (2nd time this year!) and 10 days off or in clubs like Make Up and Noxxx, these guys got the right references. They send us a mixtape and I loved it from the first second, what a great intro track! Some minimal and house beats mixed in a very smooth way! These guys know how to select tracks for an awesome mixtape! Loved it and now you will too! Check it out and give these guys some love:

Supreems – Holiday Mixtape n°2

Second talent is Keire, which you might already know from his collab with DJVC. After mentioning this name you should already know: I’m presenting you some dubstep music. Some great and hard basses with some twisting sound, it all sounds great! Have a listen:

Keire – Death Physics

Enjoy these two and support these guys!

As a bonus, Tiga gives you his remix of “Shelter” by The XX. He succeeded to keep the dark atmosphere of the XX track but still give it some nice danceable beats. Enter your e-mail and get it for free:

The Big Asthmatic Kitty Post

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Hiya Fella’s,

I wanted to tell you about this awesome label called Asthmatic Kitty. It’s Mr. Sufjans Stevens’ very own indie record label and they have signed a lot of (mostly) awesome bands with styles from hip hop to sweet indiepop and so on. There are a lot of free songs on their website and I’ll post some here but there’s a lot more to discover (but don’t get hooked because you should have time enough to check out our blog too of course :) )

1. First things first: The great Sufjan himself of course (someone I shouldn’t introduce)! From his first album A Sun Came, here comes Jason, a great song that’s a little bit edgier, harder than his later work. Here’s the link.

Sufjan Stevens – Jason

2. Don’t know what to say about this guy, he’s called Jookabox and he’s eclectic, crazy, cool, … as hell. His music is a mix of soul, hip hop, indie, pop, rock and so on but we don’t care as long as he makes great shit… and that friends, is what he does. So here are two tracks for you to enjoy.

Jookabox – The Girl Ain’t Preggers

Jookabox – You Cried Me

3. This is music your grandma could listen to too, and I don’t mean this in a bad way. It’ sweet, it’s naïve, it’s produced by Sufjan and it’s a bit lithurgical and it’s called The Welcome Wagon. I know this all seems a little weird but they have some nice songs. Check it out and see if you like it or not…

Welcome Wagon – Sold! To The Nice Rich Man!

4. This is a little bit different too: Osso is a modernist string quartet that starred in the song Diamonds For Sierra Leone from Kanye – yo, imma let you finish, but… – West and worked together with other artists like: The National, Jay-Z, The Polyphonic Spree,… . Last year they reworked Sufjan’s second album called: Enjoy Your Rabbit, which was filled with weird electronical instrumental pieces of art… This is a song that was on the rework from that album. For your consideration:

Osso – Run Rabbit Run

5. DM Stith is also really cool. It’s darker and more melancholic than the links above but it’s still great music, I like it the most when I come home from an awesome party and I just want to chill out and listen to something beautiful , but you can listen to it on other ocasions too of course :)  . Here’s a link to one of his songs:

DM Stith – BMB

6. And last but not least, something funny to dance on from a guy called Rafter. I only recently discovered this and I have to say if I would hear this on the dancefloor my feet wouldn’t stop moving. So here you are:

Rafter – Fruit (remix)

Like I said there’s a lot more to discover but this should keep give you a nice impression of what Astmatic Kitty is.

Enjoy,

Minimal.

Sunday, May 30, 2010

After tons of requests, here is some of the freshest minimal! Big thanks goes out to YRD for giving me some titles because I don’t know anything about minimal. So if you like it, thanks the guy by promoting their djsets or maybe you can book them for your party! Or you can just say thanks in the comments…

Trentemoller – Sycamore Feeling (Gui Boratto remix)

First up: Some new Trentemoller in a nice  Gui Boratto remix, really nice stuff. We already offered you the original version, but now the remix! Some clean minimal beats and some of the best elements of Trentemollers new track on it, nothing more needed to make this track awesome!

Solee – Legends

Solee brings you some nice beats and some broken sounds on it, a typical minimal track for me. But don’t mind me, I’m a noob… just enjoy it!

Extrawelt – Nevereverdiskotricks

Dropped may 20th and again Extrawelt pushed the right buttons to make some brilliant minimal!

Ramon Tapia – Back To The Bush (Patrick Zigon Shaved The Bush Dub)

We always like a track with a ambiguous title. Like this one, Patrick Zigon made a real nice dub remix from ‘Back to the Bush’! Check it out and spread the love!

To end this minimal post with a minimal of lines, here is one great Belgian artist! It’s time to introduce  Mudita! This guy brings you some great ambient/minimal music! ‘Marimba’ (listen at his myspace) is a great low tempo/ambient track which YRD really loves and made it their official setopener! It really sounds cool! Second track is called ‘Waviba’ (check his soundcloud) and has a really different vibe. It has a bit of a Vhyce touch and it more a partytrack if you want to have it labeled! Support this guy, he gives you some brilliant stuff!

As a bonus we give you a little mixtape made by a guy who has two artistnames. For his minimallove, he uses Lucas Köhler. For his electrotouch, you can call him Russel M. Original names, and original mixtape, check it out: Lucas Köhler – minimal mix. Nice job man!

Enjoy these minimal beats!

His sound mixes minimal, electro & (Chicago-)house. He got some dirty tracks and some great bangers which are supported by Laidback Luke, Chuckie and Sidney Samson! We will share some of his coolest and most catchiest tracks we found from this guy:

Oliver Twizt feat. Devine – Wil Je Dansen (what a cool track!)

Oliver Twizt – Gangsterdam

Barrientos – Vous Vous.

Tuesday, January 5, 2010

Barrientos, a 20 year old Glasgow producer, gave us his latest track! (Maybe people know him from That Diryt Latino.) With his new track “Vous Vous”, he wants to bring back summertime in cold and freezing Scotland (and anywhere else of course). It’s a nice electronic song! He gave us his remix from Distant Lovers too, which is also very nice! With his new project, this guy wants to give you some nice progressive house/minimal/club/house music. If you like the more dirty electro stuff, check out his mixtape, made for a local radiostation, named Subcity radio.

Barrientos – Vous Vous

Louis La Roche – Distant Lovers (Barrientos Remix)

Electro Mixtape made as That Dirty Latino.  (tracklisting in comments)

Sunday, May 10, 2009

George Laimos, better known as Lemos, started off in his basement in Athens in late 2006 with his first EP on Balkon Recordings, a small German label. Soon, he made his name in the minimal / tech house scene with his excellent tracks, fuelled by classical and jazzy elements.

Enjoy!

Lemos – Tsalapatar
Lemos – Some Chords

Minimal(-techno) Pt.II

Friday, May 8, 2009

After the first post of great minimal tracks, here’s the second one.
I made you a list of 10 of my favourite minimal/tech-house tracks, a lot of which I often use in sets. Don’t be mistaken by the title, don’t expect techno like DJ Coone’s techno, but expect techno that’s made with a lot of feeling and passion. Minimal is not dead!

The first track is Liebe Ist… from Stephan Bodzin’s EP Liebe Ist…Great track, some deep minimal/techno!

Stephan Bodzin – Liebe Ist…

Second we’ve got a remix of Minilogue’s Leopard by Extrawelt. Minilogue makes awesome minimal, and if it gets mixed by artists of this calibre, it can’t go wrong. A must –have!

Minilogue – The Leopard (Extrawelt Remix)

Next up, a weird but intriguing track. It gets of to a rather Tech-house start, but somewhere in the middle they throw in a didgeridoo, just great. Listen and decide if you love or hate it..

 Aka Aka – Woody Woodpecker

Somebody who couldn’t be forgotten in this list, is Gui Boratto. Boratto is a Brazilian producer who recently released a new cd, named Take My Breath Away. But I chose a track from a previous cd, Chromophobia. Minimal as deep as it gets.

 Gui Boratto – Mr. Decay

With Oxia, you never know what they’ll produce next, some tech-house, hard techno or minimal? This track is a combination of the three, and it’s just great.

 Oxia – Domino

And here we’ve got one of my favourites, Solee. This German producer is mostly known from his killer-track ‘Impressed’, but I think this one’s even better!

 Solee – Jule

Then, the classic between the classics. Remixed by James Holden, or Mr. Minimal, this great track from Nathan Fake became even greater! Again, a must have. I strongly advise you to listen to this in combination with beautiful weather and decent speakers!

Nathan Fake – The Sky Was Pink (James Holden Remix)

Extrawelt, the guys who remixed Minilogue, also produce some own stuff. Oliver Huntemann laid his hands on their track Trummerfeld, and the result is beautiful. Great climax in this one, but don’t expect a trash/electro-climax, be prepared.

Extrawelt – Trummerfeld (Oliver Huntemann Remix)

And last but not least, Mr. Kalkbrenner. Everybody knows him because of his track ‘Sky and Sand’ but that’s almost an insult when you listen to his other tracks. This is definitely a fine peace of art. Be sure to check his other songs as well if you like this!

 Paul Kalkbrenner – Azure

I chose not to end with a minimal-track, but with one of my favourite songs of one of my favourite bands, if not my favourite. Joy Division no longer exists, their lead singer Ian Curtis hung himself in 1980, but they continued as New Order, one of the most influencing bands of the late 80’s and early 90’s.

Joy Division – New Dawn Fades

Hoping you’ll enjoy these tracks, I greet you.
Cheers, Elias from YRD?!
