Fly Lo and Gonjasufi Post

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

Two artists who have release respectively two of the best albums of this year are  releasing some new shit soon. Of course I’m talking about Flying Lotus and Gonjasufi, for those who don’t know these guys, shame on you! But still, I’ll give some heads-up for those who can’t follow (see that’s how friendly I am).

Flying Lotus is family from famous jazz-musicians Alice and John Coltrane (no mercy for people who don’t know who John or Alice Coltrane are) and he’s a musician and a producer, who makes hip hop injected with so much other genres you can’t really call it just hip hop anymore. He mixes jazz, dub step, hip hop, IDM, ambient and so much more in one great rich musical pile of pure gold.

The other guy I was talking about, Gonjasufi, is a discovery by Flying Lotus whou found him in San Diego where he was dj’ing, rapping and last but not least teaching yoga. Gonjasufi first made a guest appearance on one of Fly Lo’s albums and was then noticed by Warp records who offered him to record a CD, and so he did. Also this wasn’t just pure hip hop, not at all, it was a mix of ballads, folk, soul, … .

The two Cd’s I was talking about are Cosmogramma and A Sufi and A Killer, respectively from Flying Lotus and Gonjasufi, if you still looking for some great music to spend the end of the summer with then this is the shit you should listen to!

So far for the heads-up, here’s the real news Flying Lotus is bringing out a new EP, called Pattern + Grid World which will be released on the 20 th of september and Gonjasufi is releasing a remix CD called The Caliph’s Thea Party that comes out somewhere in the beginning of october. Warp Records which is the label where the CD’s will be released on is giving us a sweet preview of the two albums by letting us listen to two songs out of it. Here are the Links:

Gonjasufi – Ancestors ((Dreamtime) Mark Pritchard Rmx)

This remix is really intriguing it stretches the song out, beats it up, gives it some punches in the nuts and then leaves it somewhere bleeding to death in a dark alley, I know this really seems like a bad metaphore but that’s how I fell after listening to the song. So it isn’t really one to dance on, except for when you’re really realy really stoned or something,  hey we can’t always dance! But It’s a great remix, just give it a chance.

Flying Lotus – Camera Day

“This isn’t jazz, hip hop, dubstep at all!” I hear you say: jup that’s Flying Lotus. But it’s still a damn good track and there’s something to dance on here so maybe you Dj’s could throw this one in one of your sets or maybe not, you’ll see…

Enjoy,

Let’s Dance

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

Hi,

I got some more news about Kanye and some about our own famous artist called Stromae, you know the one who said we should dance (pronounced donce). Well now Kanye decided to make Stromae’s hit “Alors On Dance” better. How? Well he wrote some new Rhymes on Stromae’s beats. For you to decide if he succeeded:

Stromae – Alors On Dance (Kanye West Remix)

Also Jay-Z has a new song featuring Chris Martin produced by DJ Green Latern which has a nice laidback vibe and typical Jay-Z lyrics about how people coming from the gettho make it, and become really famous and than die or suffer because of that (man Jay-Z should stop nagging from time to time, he’s not a f*cking marter bitch) but in spite of the lyrics it’s still a cool song, not an awesome song but a cool one. Here’s the link:

Jay -Z feat. Chris Martin – Most Kingz

And last but not least a new song by Nas which has some nice raw drums and typical hard Nas flows and some “vibey” (look I invented a new word) Sax. It’s a real short song but an enjoyable one…

NAS – Last Real N*gga Alive Pt 2

Have Fun,

TRB

I’m A Mothafucking Monster

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

yo brothers and sisters,

Just wanted to make sure you could download this shit: Monster from Kanye West ft. Jay z, Rick Ross, Bon Iver (awesome) & Nicki Minaj. But even without looking to the great cooperations between these really good musicians it’s a damn good song, it rocks, it roars, it bounces and it’s danceable in the way you wanna dance your fucking feet off… (at least I think so) and has this awesome lyrics like: “Sasquatch, Godzilla, King Kong Lochness, Goblin, Ghoul, a zombie with no conscience question what do all these things have in common everybody knows I’m a muthaf-cking monster”. I’m a fucking fan, now it’s up to you here’s the link:

Kanye West and friends… – Monster

Now I wanna hear everybody scream: I’m a Mothafucking Monster!

P.S: Sorry fo’ all the cussing :)

I Do Mothafuckas

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Hi,

Been back from a long trip, but haven’t discovered  a lot of new music I have to say and that all beacause of that stupid Shakira and her official Worldcup song and f*ing Justin Bieber (been on a trip with kids, and that was almost the only thing they wanted to hear) . Except for a new track from André 3000 ft Young Jeezzy.

Since the members of outkast decided to make music by themselves but put them on a record together they made almost nothing but good music, and this new track isn’t exactly the bomb but it’s a classic André song with a lot of choirs and other dramatic touches, and I like it. So check it out:

Levi’s Pioneer Sessions

Friday, July 23, 2010

Hey Guys and Girls,

I know what you thinking… Is the Rusty Blog being sponsored by Levi, fucking Levi? Well altough I wouldn’t mind receiving free Levi’s jeans, we are not (I mean sponsored). No the reason why I put there logo up here is because they have tought out a great musical concept and it’s called: “Levi’s Pioneer Sessions” and what they do is invite contemporary musicians, like Passion Pit, She and Him, The Kills, Dirty Projectors, Ryan Bingham, The Roots, NAS,… to recraft older songs that inspired their sound or stimulated them to make music. And they are giving away all those songs fo’ free on their website. Also there’s a making of video of every recording… . My favourites are She and Him, Passion Pit and NAS who have respectevely reworked: Fools Rush In from Rick Nelson, Tonight Tonight from The Smashing Pumpkins and Hey Young World from Slick Rick.

So check it out boys and girls and enjoy…

MRC Riddims.

Thursday, July 15, 2010

Hip-Hop time! MRC Riddims is a new group containing Oktopus (from Dälek) & MRC! They offer us some great oldskool hip-hop in a 2010 version! Their first single is called “My time to shine” and is featered by Mc Oddateee. Their first track is avaible to listen here and dude, it is awesome! The beats and musical pieces are original, experimental and oldskool! They say about themselves, they are Gang Starr or even A tribe called Quest in a 2010 version, and I gotta say I believe them. This is one of the best hip-hop tracks I’ve heard in ages. You gotta listen to this mate! Brilliant!

The Big Asthmatic Kitty Post

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Hiya Fella’s,

I wanted to tell you about this awesome label called Asthmatic Kitty. It’s Mr. Sufjans Stevens’ very own indie record label and they have signed a lot of (mostly) awesome bands with styles from hip hop to sweet indiepop and so on. There are a lot of free songs on their website and I’ll post some here but there’s a lot more to discover (but don’t get hooked because you should have time enough to check out our blog too of course :) )

1. First things first: The great Sufjan himself of course (someone I shouldn’t introduce)! From his first album A Sun Came, here comes Jason, a great song that’s a little bit edgier, harder than his later work. Here’s the link.

Sufjan Stevens – Jason

2. Don’t know what to say about this guy, he’s called Jookabox and he’s eclectic, crazy, cool, … as hell. His music is a mix of soul, hip hop, indie, pop, rock and so on but we don’t care as long as he makes great shit… and that friends, is what he does. So here are two tracks for you to enjoy.

Jookabox – The Girl Ain’t Preggers

Jookabox – You Cried Me

3. This is music your grandma could listen to too, and I don’t mean this in a bad way. It’ sweet, it’s naïve, it’s produced by Sufjan and it’s a bit lithurgical and it’s called The Welcome Wagon. I know this all seems a little weird but they have some nice songs. Check it out and see if you like it or not…

Welcome Wagon – Sold! To The Nice Rich Man!

4. This is a little bit different too: Osso is a modernist string quartet that starred in the song Diamonds For Sierra Leone from Kanye – yo, imma let you finish, but… – West and worked together with other artists like: The National, Jay-Z, The Polyphonic Spree,… . Last year they reworked Sufjan’s second album called: Enjoy Your Rabbit, which was filled with weird electronical instrumental pieces of art… This is a song that was on the rework from that album. For your consideration:

Osso – Run Rabbit Run

5. DM Stith is also really cool. It’s darker and more melancholic than the links above but it’s still great music, I like it the most when I come home from an awesome party and I just want to chill out and listen to something beautiful , but you can listen to it on other ocasions too of course :)  . Here’s a link to one of his songs:

DM Stith – BMB

6. And last but not least, something funny to dance on from a guy called Rafter. I only recently discovered this and I have to say if I would hear this on the dancefloor my feet wouldn’t stop moving. So here you are:

Rafter – Fruit (remix)

Like I said there’s a lot more to discover but this should keep give you a nice impression of what Astmatic Kitty is.

Enjoy,

How I got over

Monday, June 21, 2010

Tomorrow is the release of the long anticipated album How I Got Over by The Roots, we got two free songs of the new album for you, but you should run to your local recordstore tomorrow and buy this shit a.s.a.p, ’cause it is going to be the bomb!

The first song features John Legend, has a nice New York kinda vibe and a very tight beat. Ch-ch-ch check it out:

The Roots (ft. John Legend) – Doin’ it Again

The second has a more relaxed flow and it’s a bit more westcoast, but I really like it… . Hope you do too:

The Roots (ft. Blu, Phonte & Patt y Cash.) –  The Day

Have fun with these and maybe ’til tomorrow in one of those local recordstores…
