Summer’s back!

Thursday, September 2, 2010

Yeah, finished my exams and now it’s vacation time again. For those hard partying people in the academic year and hard studying people now, a few hints to get back into vacation mood! Aka: my favourite summertunes for this year (and I’ll try not to repost anything):

First up is a song from a band who made one of my favourite 2010 cds: Fool’s Gold! I must be the badest blogger around because I’ve listened a million times to this cd and didn’t made a post about how great this band is, sorry for that! But to inform you now: With Fool’s Gold you get nothing else but the best summervibes right here! Some sunny guitars and rythms, like only Vampire Weekend can make (and from now on also Fool’s Gold can make), some Hebrew singing (how cool is that!) and the best part: their cd is full of this! Greaaaaaaaat. Let the summer (re)start right now:

Fool’s Gold – Surprise Hotel

Another track which made my summer is “Baby I’m Yours” by Breakbot. Together with Aeroplane’s “We can’t fly” ony of my favourite disco(ish) tracks this year. This guy knows how to make one very very catchy song! When I listen to this track, I do it for 5 times in a row and slap myself for forgetting how great this track is and not playing this one 24/7. Just have a listen and get funky!

Breakbot – Baby I’m Yours

Third band that made a soundtrack for my summer is the big 2010 hype The Drums. But being hyped is not a reason to dislike a band my dear reader. That’s why we are proud to say: We Love The Drums! But since they already got featered a lot on this blog (that’s right, we started the hype. Now kick us in the nuts!) we have something special to share with you! 2 great covers made by the drums. First one is a download and a cover by “We used to wait”, the great new Arcade Fire song. Second one is a Supremes cover, the best one of the two but a youtube vid. Check them out:

The Drums – We Used To Wait +     The Drums – Where did our love go

Last one in this list is Patti Smith. Not at all a fresh tune but a great one though. From her most famous album “Horses”, this icon made one of my favourite tracks EVER! Okay it’s a cover but probably the best cover ever made. Starting relaxed and silent, “Gloria” gives me the dancing fever at the end of the song. This  really is a greaaaaat track, believe me! Enjoy it:

Patti Smith – Gloria

I know a short list, but hey I got vacation! Gotta go into the garden, kicking it with a cocktail and party all night long!

Peace!

Hypes.

Saturday, August 28, 2010

I tought, this time I won’t go with the flow and follow these hypes by posting them on this blog, but damn these tracks/groups are just to good to let them pass by. So you may already know these bands, but for the people who don’t: check them out, they are really worth it!

Let’s begin with one of the greatest tracks released this year: “King of the Beach” by Wavves! It’s on their thirds record already and to be honest I’ve never heard of them but that’s no bad thing, staying underground. But now I’ve discovered Wavves and I am happy I did, “King of the beach” is such an awesome song! Tight drums, happy guitars and some catchy vocals. Really a great song, live an awesome sing-along! Other songs are sometimes a bit similar but still there is enough diversity so the cd never gets boring. Another favourite is the more psychedellic “Post Acid”. This music is called Lo-fi punk, which means recorded in a “bad” DIY way, but it all gives it more love by us. Happy to let you get to know this band, You gotta check out Wavves:

Wavves – King of the Beach

Next is softer, sunnier and has a great folk touch. The guys and girl from Allo Darlin’ give you some of the sunniest and happiest songs you’ll hear this summer. If you want a comparison: Slow club but in a more mature version. Some happy guitars, flute and vocals. This is pure summer. I love this cd! Have a listen at one of their songs!

Allo Darlin’ – Dreaming

Another hype in the making: the new Interpol album. A lot of people who wants be indie or want to be the person who knows all the unknown bands hate that other Joy Division clone called Editors but love Interpol. No idea why, I like them both. As example the new song leaked from their upcoming album sounds great! Barricade gets them back and closer to their debut album, and far away from their 2007 ‘Our love to admire’. Thank god for that! Have a listen and countdown to their new album:

Interpol – Barricade

Last hype for today: Miami Horror. They make some bloody nice stuff. Dancy disco tunes with the most catchy hooks I’ve heard this summer! The track “Holiday” is stuck on repeat in my head, but that’s just fine because it’s a goddamn nice tune! Disco will rule 2010!

Miami Horror – Holiday

Keep them hyping!

Danceable Tracks.

Thursday, August 26, 2010

We got some new songs for you: electro, house, indie, rock, danceable, non-danceable… A bit of everything!

First up is a great indie song made by O. Children. It’s called “Dead Disco Dancer” and has everything to become a small radiohit: Some catchy and basic guitar and bass riffs together with a Joy Division like vocal: deep and strong. Loving it, maybe you will too:

O. Children – Dead Disco Dancer

Time to bring you some funky beats and basslines. What beter to present you here then the latest Beataucue remix? Nothing I guess…. A hit called “Get Outta My Way” from the new 2010 album by pop-princess Kylie Minogue made into a housy electro clubtrack. Very danceable!

Kylie Minogue – Get Outta My Way (BeatauCue Remix)

A track I found on great electro blog Bit Beats and made by resident K!tch, this time together with Kids At The Turntable. A weird title, but a great track! House bleeps and beats are made to a firework track! Everybody will go “oohh” and dance their ass of on this one! Check it out:

K!TCH ft. Kids At The Turntable – Kel Klet Ce Peï (Original Mix)

British ravy indieband Does It Offend You, Yeah? is finally back with some new stuff! After their great debut, they’ll release their second album called “Don’t Say We Didn’t Warn You” in 2011. As a preview they offer us a free track called “We are the Dead”. Starting of as a ballad like rock song, electronic come to help at 1 minute and make this song very danceable and enjoyable. Get it here:

Does It Offend You, Yeah? – We Are The Dead

For the more raving people we got a hard remix by DickNasty! He took on Rad Omens “Rad Anthem”, some hard beats, some raving synths and some robot vocals. Fun!

Rad Omen- Rad Anthem (DiCkNaStY! electroRIOT remix)

First heard about Fenech Soler thanks to the Herve remix from their track “Lies”. Checked out the original and really loved it! Some catchy and very danceable indierock with an electro touch! Very cool, for all you hipsters! Forget about Airship, Timie Tempah, Tame Impala or HURTS; Fenech Soler is your new favourite band!

Fenech Soler – Lies

That’s it for today!

All Delighted People.

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Today is a good day, said a certain rapper in one of his songs and damn he’s right! New stuff out of nowhere by the master of music: Sufjan Stevens! And you can have a listen to a new song by Goose!

First up, news about Sufjan. After years without releasing typical SS songs the man is back. Without a warning this time, but that makes us love the tracks even more. Yeah, you got it, I’m loving this EP called “All Delighted People”! 8 new tracks, duration about 1 hour, enough to discover this time! The title track comes in 2 versions, the original one is my favourite (actually of the whole EP) with some of the best orchestral parts Stevens has used so far, banjo’s, guitars, choirs and other stuff to give a wide variety in just 9 minutes. This song (and the others too actually) could fit in right on his masterpiece Illinoise. Mr Stevens explains: “All Delighted People is a dramatic homage to the Apocalypse, existential ennui, and Paul Simon’s Sounds of Silence. Sounds delightful, yes!” You can prelisten the whole thing at the link below and buy it for only 5 dollars, cheap so do it!

Sufjan Stevens – All Delighted People Ep

Second: the guys from Goose are assholes! Making us so damn curious about their new CD, they gave us after “Words” a new song called “Dawn”. Short and mysterious, this track makes us want to have that second CD more and more. Liking their new style, a bit of kraftwerkish vocals in “Words”; dark synths in “Dawn”… Can’t wait to hear the next song! But please, have a listen for yourself:

Goose – Dawn

As a bonus, a nice mixtape made by Supah Troopas! Have a listen, these guys made an effort and delivered quality. Nice one!

Supah Troopas – 2 cool 4 skool

Bang Pop.

Friday, August 20, 2010

Great news for indielovers: there will come a 7″ split by  The Free Energy & Local Natives via White Iris Records on September 14th! This vinyl will contain  exclusive track by Local Natives and The Free Energy! Untill then, you can listen to a remix made by Lewis Pesacov from great summerindieband Fool’s Gold from a Free Energy track. It’s a bit weird, not at all a party track but it’s a nice listen. Try it out, it’s for free:

Free Energy – Bang Pop (Fool’s Gold Remix)

As a bonus we got a nice remix from the great Miike Snow track “Black and Blue”. Australian fellas NAPT made this one and use it to make the dancefloor explode. Have a listen, the intro is a bit soft and nothing special but after that party starts with this great banger! Loving it! Hold tight for their forthcoming new single “Emotion”, out later this year, with remixes, from amongst others DnB superstars Brookes Brothers. But ’till then: Free download motherfucker, yeeha!

You Were a Kindness.

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

The National made one of the records of the year with the faboulos “High Violet” and is already back with a new track! Recorded at a session in “The Current Studios” in Minnesota, the new song is called “You Were a Kindness”. It’s a typical National song: somewhat depressing, slow and it goes right to the heart. Lovely, check it out:

The National – Your Were a Kindness

Check them out live at pukkelpop in 3 days, or at the AB in Brussels on November 21th.

Dancing In The Suburbs

Saturday, August 14, 2010

Hi,

As you know Arcade Fire released a new album this week, and we couldn’t let that pass without any news of it on this blog. As I’m not the best reviewer I won’t give a try reviewing the album. But I can say for the few times I listened to it, the album is genius and is a relief after their rather disappointing second album “Neon Bible”.

Maybe the best thing about this album is that they left out the bombast from Neon bible and tried to make good music instead of making good music but with as lot of people possible playing instruments at the same time. But check it out for your self you can listen to two of the songs, including their latest single “The Suburbs” on their myspace. And I put my favorite song of the album down below. For the rest of the album go out and buy it, you won’t be disappointed!

Arcade Fire – Ready To Start

I don’t really know why I like this song the most, but it kind of attracted me since the first listening of the album. I think I like the energy, the speed of the song the most. But also the great lyrics like: “Businessmen drink my blood, like the kids in art schools said they would.”

With Perfume Genius I had number one for my top 10 albums of this year and i think I found an album for the second spot.

Peace out hombre’s

Perfume Genius

Monday, July 26, 2010

Fuck I think I just heard the number one album of this year, and it’s called “Learning” from this guy named Perfume Genius. There’s no way to describe the beauty of this music, so I advise you to just listen to the album HERE or download the two songs below and then go buy ten copies of his CD so you can play the record for the rest of your days… .

Perfume Genius – Look Out, Look Out

Perfume Genius – Learning

Shit this guy really is a genius!

Enjoy (and way beyond that)
